Practical

The Driving test is 40 minutes long and you will be expected to pass an eye sight test and drive around a major roundabout, crossroads, and perform two manouvers. All this and you must do it with 15 minors or less. The main things your examiner is looking for is Safe Driving, including road positioning, speed and observation's.

Don't change your driving, drive like your on a lesson.
Here is a list of things that you should watch:

  • Moving off- Safety checks. Get the car ready to go, look over both shoulders is there anyone to indicate to? is it safe? don't rush.
  • Stopping- Ensure it's safe convenient and lawful. Don't stop over junctions, driveways or on double yellow lines etc. Ensure you are reasonably close to the kurb (use wing mirror), indicate if needed. Once stopped put your handbrake on and take it out of gear, cancel any indicators.
  • Indicators- Must be used for changing roads, lanes, leaving roundabouts, moving off and stopping where needed. If it cancels re-apply now!
  • Meeting traffic- Are you crossing to the other side of the road? is there a parked car on either side? if its on your side you must give way- keep back and don't look like a parked car. Any doubt hold back! Keep your distance once safe make your move, don't clip mirrors!
  • Joining new roads- If you wouldn't walk across, don't drive across. Get ready and look right, left, right and go when safe.
  • Roundabouts- Take your time on the approach, read the signs and get in lane! Stay in lane and halfway thru the exit before indicate to leave and get back to the left
  • Crossroads- When crossing traffic(turning right) you must give way. Wait just after the pedestrian crossing or on the arrow if there is one. Keep an eye on lights and look into your road. Get ready and go when safe, add revs here and take your time with that clutch
  • maneuver's- Open your window. Bitting point, observations (before you go, steer or every few seconds). Go slow and think where you want the car to go. If you think you've made a mistake you can move forward to correct your mistake, just remember to use the handbrake and look around. You've done these 100's of times you can do it.
  • Use of speed- Must stick to speed limits, but also drive to the conditions. Look out for signs or danger, the narrower the road the slower you must go. Once the road clears increase speed once more.
  • Mirrors- Must be used before you change speed, direction or indicate, also if there is a change ahead (like the Hazard perception test).
